SUMMARY:Death\, Dying\, Rebirth Class and Memorial Offering
DESCRIPTION:Death\, Dying\, Rebirth class and memorial offering \nWorkshop on Befriending Mortality. A time to slow down the business of life\nand explore the realities of impermanence. Led by facilitators; Thay Kozen and\nTamara Thiel \nWe will explore the spirituality of death\, grief\, and Buddhist beliefs\, along with \nfactual information about ethical\, legal and moral issues. \nThay Kozen is the resident monk at Mt. Adams Buddhist Temple and previously directed\na hospice for many years. \nTamara Thiel serves as a death doula in the Columbia Gorge Area. A death doula\nor end-of-life doula is a person who offers compassionate\, holistic support during\nthe end-of-life process. It is a non-medical role that recognizes death as a natural\npart of life and aids in supporting families\, with dignity and honor\, as a person\nexits life. Death doulas do not replace hospice but fill the gaps and build bridges\nto build a team for individuals facing the end-of-life. \nTogether\, we will look at Buddhist concepts of life\, suffering\, and death –\nSamsara. There will be teachings on the conceptual framework of the grief\nprocess and the types of grief we can experience. Then we slow down\, tune in\nand experience a labyrinth grief walk.  \nAn overview education on dying and death will be presented\, examining the\nlandscape from diagnosis to death and the care support we might want and the\nend-of-life choices we can make. We will learn about recording wishes with of a\nPOA (Power of Attorney)\, an AD (Advance Directive)\, and a POLST (Physician\nOrders for Life Sustaining Treatment). Also discussed will be our after-death\nchoices and the options that are available. We will conclude on the Five\nInvitations and discover what death can teach us about living fully. Practices that\ncan offer inspiration and guidance to be explored and deepened. Each participant\nwill receive a booklet of all the presented material including a list of resources for\nguidance.

SUMMARY:Laurie VanCott Yoga Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The theme for 2024 is\nAWAKENING!\nCome explore what awakening means for each of us\, and how to access healing and growth through yoga\, the chakras\, meditation\, food\, and self-reflection! \nThis year we will focus on balancing our physical\, emotional\, and spiritual well-being through yoga postures\, dance\, music\, meditation\, and discussion. We will also explore the chakras\, which offer a bridge between our subconscious and conscious actions and thoughts\, allowing us to understand ourselves by opening our minds to our inner sources of inspiration\, personal power\, wholeness\, and transformation. It is a practical system for healing energy imbalances and taking control of our mental and physical health\, which is relevant to all of us today as we navigate to find meaning\, purpose\, and a connection with our shared humanity. \nEach retreat will include: \n\n4 yoga classes with Laurie VanCott\, Gorge Yoga\nA lecture on the chakras and understanding the self\nAn acupuncture group session\nAn evening sound bath\nAll meals are provided by Petra Knapp of Native Provisions.\n\nThere will also be time to relax\, renew\, and reflect by providing opportunities for connection and deep conversation\, journaling\, or walking the grounds of the Abbey. \n“The yoga retreat is magical. The setting is as beautiful and peaceful as the mind can imagine. This quiet space combined with the different experiences of the retreat allow you time to reflect\, to hear your inner voices that are often covered up by the noise of life. \nI left so much lighter\, with insights and tools to help me live my authentic life. and to be able to live more closely to the person I want to be.
