BASIC GUIDELINES FOR OUR MEDITATION AND RETREAT AREA. This is a space designated for finding peace. Please enter here with a willing heart and an open spirit. People of all faiths and religions are welcome; you do not “need” to be anything other than what you are while you are here. The many small Buddha statues are meant to inspire us to find peace. The term Buddha means “enlightened,” it also has a second meaning of “opening up” – like a flower budding. It is said that to look on the face of a Buddha carving will help our hearts to open up a bit. May your heart and the hearts of all beings open to peace. Please keep your voice low with minimal interaction with others. No music or other auditory intrusions unless you are with a group and are using the entire cloister. Restrooms and showers are available on the first floor of the garage. If you are on a silent retreat – please wear a “Silent Retreat” name badge so we can all honor your practice. Our office is open between 1pm and 5pm. Emergency phone calls can be received 24 hours a day at 509.637.5995. Please use this number for real emergencies only. The temple has 2 dogs. No other pets are allowed on the property. Dogen Zenji (1200 – 1253), Japanese Zen Master reminds us:

“Let us be respectfully reminded: Life and death are of supreme importance.

Time swiftly passes by and with it our only chance.

Each of us must aspire to awaken Be aware: do not squander your life.”

Zen Master Pháp Loa (1284 – 1330) Vietnamese Zen Master reminds us:

“Learners! Days and months are flying by. Life is not waiting for you.

Why are you eating rice and soup,

and do not realize the use of bowl and spoon?

Observe!”

May the Infinite Light of Wisdom and Compassion so shine within us that the errors and vanities of self may be dispelled;
so shall we understand the changing nature of existence and awaken into spiritual peace.
